Raymond
and Donetta Klubnik started our business in 1967. They
began selling Troy Bilt tillers from their home in North
Royalton and at the Home and Garden Show. In 1974, they
opened the first retail location on State Route 82 in
North Royalton. The following year a second location
was purchased, an existing lawn & garden retail outlet,
in downtown Medina.
In the mid 80's spas were introduced
to the lawn and garden product mix as a means of keeping
busy in the off season. When fireplaces were discussed
as the next step in the growth of the company, the existing
building in downtown Medina, which was already size
challenged, became too small.
In 1995 a new state of the art facility
was built on Route 18 with room to spare. It was in
this same year we added sunrooms and enclosures. With
spas, fireplaces, and enclosure sales growing rapidly
the name The Tractor Place no longer fit the business.
We needed a name that could grow with us and fit with
any other products we might want to add. After much
discussion we went with "The Place", a name designed
to keep a tie to the past but with an eye to the future.

The Place
has always emphasized quality products and service.
We will guide you to best product available and to work
within your budget. Salespeople and techs are factory
trained and work hard to keep current and up to date
with the latest market information. While Ray and Donetta
are no longer active in the day to day running of the
business, their daughters Andrea, Donerae, and Michelle
along with son in law Brett, have continued following
the same philosophy that made The Place successful.
Son Raymond, who worked alongside his
siblings since he was a child, has, with the help of
his wife Cheryl, opened his own spa business in Las
Vegas. "Diamond Coast Spas" is now 2 years old and going
strong! Ray and Cheryl invite you to stop in and visit
on your next trip to Vegas!
Whatever the future holds, rest assured
that our family of employees will be ready with the
most innovative and excellent products available in
our industry. We will give you educated assistance in
choosing and maintaining your purchases. We promise
to do our best for you. Thank you for giving us the
opportunity to be of service. |
It is with great sadness that
we announce the passing of our founder.
Raymond M. Klubnik
1934 – 2005
Former Local 38 electrician, Raymond Klubnik became
an entrepreneur when, with wife Donetta, he opened
the retail stores now know as The Place, currently
in it’s 39th year of business (see above). The
father of five and grandfather of 10 was passionate
about work, family, fishing, and baseball. He worked
hard and played harder.
Although sickness plagued his last years, he remained
an integral part of family and business until complications
of Parkinsen’s disease unexpectedly took him
from us much sooner than we were ready for. His business
legacy and his courage in facing all life handed him,
continues to set the standard for those of us left
behind, a challenge to continue his work in a way
in which he would be proud.

In
Memory of Daniel Klubnik
Dan graduated from Akron University
with a business/marketing degree. He loved sports
and played baseball, basketball and fantasy football.
He joined the family business and became the manager
of the lawn & garden division of The Place….The
Tractor Place
He successfully ran the division
until Friday, May 19, 2000 when he happily left
the store to play a league baseball game. Tragically,
during the game, Dan collapsed and died at the
hospital from an undetected heart problem.
We will never be the same.
